Pick by FIFO
General
The FIFO management feature added by business essentials allows following business scenarios,
- Automatically assign tracking lines based on FIFO for items without expiration dates.
- Support a combination of FIFO and FEFO for items with and without expiration dates.
- Seamless integration with standard Business Central documents, like Warehouse Picks, Inventory Picks, and Inventory Movements.
Enabling FIFO management in Location Card
A new field, Pick According to FIFO, has been added to the Location Card.

| Pick According to FIFO | Specifies whether to use the FIFO method for picking. |
- The field can only be edited if Require Pick is set to Yes.
- If Require Pick is disabled, Pick According to FIFO is automatically turned off and becomes non-editable.
- Both Pick According to FIFO and Pick According to FEFO can be activated simultaneously, allowing for FEFO picking of items with expiration dates and FIFO picking of items without expiration dates.
Assigning Tracking Lines to Warehouse and Inventory Documents
When creating Warehouse Picks, Inventory Picks, or Inventory Movements the system will automatically suggest the appropriate Lots/Packages to pick depending on the Location setup.
FIFO and FEFO Combinations
The behavior varies based on the configuration in the Location card:

Pick According to FEFO = Yes: Suggests lots/packages based on FEFO (standard behavior).

Pick According to FIFO = Yes: Suggests lots/packages based on FIFO for items without expiration dates.

Both Pick According to FEFO and FIFO = Yes: Uses FEFO for items with expiration dates and FIFO for items without expiration dates.
Rules for Lot/Package Suggestions

Handling Items with No Available Lots/Packages: If no Lots/Packages are available, the tracking fields are left blank.

Handling Partial Availability: If there is insufficient quantity in a Lot/Package, assign the available quantity and leave the tracking fields blank for the remaining quantity.

Blocked Lots: If a Lot/Package is marked as Blocked, it will be skipped.

Non-Tracking Items: Lines having item with no Item Tracking Code are ignored.

Pre-assigned Tracking Lines: Existing assignments are inherited and not updated. For partial assignments, only the remaining quantities are suggested based on FIFO.
Integration with Inspection Status App
The “Pick by FIFO” feature does not have a direct dependency on the Inspection Status App, but it includes validations if both extensions are installed.
If a Lot Number has an Inspection Status with Production = No (Select or Post/Register), that lot is skipped when assigning item tracking lines to warehouse/inventory documents for Pick by FIFO processes.
If a Lot Number has an Inspection Status not allowing selection for Production Consumption (Select or Post/Register are not selected), that lot is skipped when assigning item tracking lines to warehouse/inventory documents for Pick by FIFO processes.
