Production Optimization Assisted Setup

The Assisted Setup will guide you through the installation process of the Manufacturing Production Optimization App. Use the Search icon and select Set up Manufacturing Production Optimization.

Step 1: Define default values for Planning Optimization

You will be able to define the following default values:

  • Optimization Order Type – Choose which order statuses are retrieved (From Planned / From Firm Planned / From Released)

  • Default Optimization Period – Date formula used to compute the planning window on Factory Planning

  • Default Optimization Subperiod – Day, Week, Month, Quarter, or Year.

  • Default Planning Flexibility – Default value applied to retrieved lines (None or Unlimited)

  • Planning Flexibility after Optimization – Default value applied after applying the plan (None or Unlimited)

  • Maintenance Work Center – Work Center used by maintenance actions

  • Maintenance Item – Item used when creating a Maintenance Order

  • Allow Invalid Combinations – If enabled, the action Assign and Adjust ignore missing Changeover Matrix combinations (no blocking).

During the Assisted Setup configuration, when you select a Maintenance Item, it must have Purchasing Blocked = Yes, Sales Blocked = Yes, no Item Tracking Code, and no Production BOM. If these conditions are not met, the wizard shows validation errors.

Step 2: Define Production Lines

Create one or more Production Lines with Default Starting/Ending Time, Preparation Time (and Unit of Measure), Default Optimization Subperiod, and Automatic Split.

A Production Line is a newly introduced planning entity that can be assigned to one or multiple routings. It acts as a dedicated planning unit with its own starting and ending times, preparation and changeover times and planning characteristics. This feature is designed to enhance production order planning by allowing planners to schedule operations based on the specific configuration and timing of each production line, rather than relying solely on work centers.

Step 3: Create default values and demo set

On the Assisted Setup you will be able to create the following default values:

  • Optionally create a demo set for Planning Characteristics (up to 10) and respective Values.

  • Optionally Create Default Maintenance Routings – one certified routing per Production Line, constrained to the Maintenance Work Center.

If Maintenance Work Center or Routing Nos. are missing, the wizard blocks creation. If no Production Lines exist, the Maintenance Routing is created without the Production Line populated.

Factory Planning Setup

Production Optimization has a specific page for Setup, to set standard information to be used on Factory Planning related actions:

In the Planning Optimization tab, fill in the following fields:

Field Description
Optimization Order Type Specifies from which status production order are to be utilized when creating Optimized Orders through Factory Planning.
Default Optimization Period Specifies the date formula used when retrieving the Orders on the Factory Planning.
Default Optimization Subperiod Specifies how the orders are divided into subperiod blocks.
Planning Flexibility after Optimization Specifies the default Planning Flexibility after adjusting the Optimization.
Maintenance Work Center Specifies the Work Center to be used when adding Maintenance Time.
Maintenance Item Specifies the Item to be used when adding Maintenance Order.
Allow Invalid Combinations Specifies if the Factory Planning should adjust invalid combinations (non-existence of Changeover Times)

Permissions

To use this extension, all users need some extra permissions:

Permission Set Name Description
(BRIMPO_READER) MPO - Reader Users using this Permission Set can read all tables related to Production Optimization.
(BRIMPO_BASIC) MPO - Basic Users using this Permission Set can see and reschedule Production Orders through Production Planning Overview and Optimize the Production process based on Changeover Matrix.
