Packing Unit: A packing unit is a reusable packaging for the item. It has a fixed 1 to 1 ratio with the item’s base unit of measure.
This Packing Unit can’t be changed on documents. It is posted automatically when posting the shipment or receipt.
Shipping Unit: A shipping unit is a grouping unit used to handle several items when placing them in the shipping container (crate, box, etc….). It’s typically defined on the item level; however, the customer or vendor might require alternative shipping units. In that case, this would supersede the item’s defined shipping unit(s).
The shipping unit quantity is defined by the upper rounding of the quotient of the quantity to ship/receive divided by the qty per packaging type. Ultimately, shipping unit can be adjusted at document level.
Shipping Container Unit: A shipping container is a logistical unit that is being used for tracking shipments.
