Production Order Attribute Inheritance
The Production Order Attribute Inheritance feature ensures that attribute values flow seamlessly from components to finished products. This automation reduces manual input and maintains consistency across production orders.
The Production Order Lines have been extended to support attribute inheritance rules, ensuring that lot-specific attributes, expiration dates, and other key values are correctly transferred during production. New rules allow users to define how attributes should be inherited from components to finished goods, streamlining production workflows and improving traceability.
Lot No Attributes Inheritance
The Lot No. Attribute Inheritance feature ensures that essential attributes, such as dates and quality measures, flow seamlessly from components to finished goods.
When a Lot No. is assigned on Item Tracking Lines for a production output in a released Production Order, its attributes will be inherited from consumed components based on:
- Defined Inheritance Rules in the Production BOM (if available).
- The default settings in the Lot Attributes Setup (if no specific BOM rules exist).
Key Business Rules
-
Seamless Attribute Flow: Lot No. attributes are inherited automatically when processing output lines through Production Journal, Output Journal, and Inventory Put-Away.
-
Direct Lot Assignments: When a Lot No. is assigned on Production Order Lines, inherited attributes are transferred to all subsequent processing stages.
-
Dynamic Rule Evaluation: The system checks for applicable Inheritance Rules in the Production BOM:
- If the Inheritance Type is All Components, the system aggregates attributes from all consumed items.
- If the Inheritance Type is Component-Specific, only attributes from selected components are considered.
-
Fallback Mechanism: If no Production BOM rules exist, the system refers to default settings in Advanced Attribute Management Setup to determine inheritance behavior.
-
Validation & Enforcement:
- If no matching attribute is found, the system prevents the attribute from being applied to the output Lot No.
- For Formula-Based Inheritance, conditions must be met before the attribute is transferred.
- If attributes are overridden manually, changes are logged for traceability.
Expiration Date Inheritance
The Expiration Date Inheritance feature ensures that expiration dates are accurately transferred from component items to finished goods in production. This automation helps maintain compliance with industry regulations and prevents errors in inventory tracking.
When a Lot No. is assigned on Item Tracking Lines for a production output in a released Production Order, the expiration date will be inherited from consumed components based on:
-
Defined Inheritance Rules in the Production BOM (if available).
-
The default settings in the Advanced Attributes Setup (if no specific BOM rules exist).
Key Business Rules
-
Automatic Expiration Date Transfer: When processing output lines via Production Journal, Output Journal, and Inventory Put-Away, expiration dates are automatically inherited from the relevant component items.
-
Conditional Expiration Date Assignment: If Require Expiration Date Entry is set to True in the Item Tracking Code, the system will not auto-fill expiration dates, even if inheritance rules exist.
-
Fallback Mechanism: If no Production BOM rules exist, the system refers to Advanced Attributes Management Setup for expiration date inheritance.
-
Ensuring Data Accuracy:
- If no applicable expiration date is found, the system prevents an incorrect or blank expiration date from being assigned.
- Manual adjustments to expiration dates are logged for traceability and compliance.
Production Order Lines Inheritance Rules List
On the Released Production Order Line, a new action called Prod. BOM Lot No. Attributes Inheritance Rules exists to open the Lot No. Attributes Inheritance Rules list.

Business Rules
-
The Production BOM Lot No. Attributes Inheritance Rules action is only enabled if the selected line has a Production BOM No. filled in. If no Production BOM No. value is present, the action is disabled.
-
This action opens the Lot No. Attributes Inheritance Rule List page, filtered by the Production BOM No. of the selected Production Order Line.
-
The list is read-only, allowing users to view details but not make modifications.
-
Users should be able to open the Lot Attributes Inheritance Rule card in view mode, ensuring no changes, deletions, or new entries can be made.
