Remove Printers

This article explains how to remove printers from Dynamics 365 Business Central when using the Bricklead Print Solution.
Two different concepts are covered:

  • Removing a printer setup (printer name) in Business Central
  • Removing printer IDs coming from the Print Solution client (PrintNode)

Understanding the difference is important to avoid orphan printers appearing in Business Central.

Remove a Printer Setup (Printer Name) in Business Central

Removing a printer setup in Business Central prevents reports from being printed to that printer.

When to use this

  • The printer is no longer used
  • The printer configuration must be replaced
  • You want to prevent users from selecting this printer for report printing

Steps

  1. In Dynamics 365 Business Central, open the Printer Management page.
  2. Select the printer you want to remove.
  3. Open the Printer Settings page.
  4. Select the Delete (trash bin) icon.

Note
We recommend also checking the Printer Selections page and removing any references to this printer before deleting the printer setup. This avoids users selecting a printer that no longer exists.

Remove Printer IDs (Print Solution / PrintNode)

Scenario

When decommissioning:

  • a physical printer, or
  • a workstation or print server running the Print Solution client

you may want to remove the related printer IDs so they no longer appear in Business Central.

Important
Printer IDs are not removed automatically when a PC or printer goes offline.

How Printer IDs Work

  • Printer IDs are provided by the Print Solution client to identify physical printers.
  • These IDs remain available in Business Central even if:
    • the workstation is shut down
    • the printer is no longer connected
  • Printer IDs must be removed from the PrintNode portal, not from Business Central.

Prerequisite
We strongly recommend removing the printer setup in Business Central before deleting the printer ID from PrintNode.

Remove a Printer ID from PrintNode

  1. Open the Print Solution client on the local workstation or print server.

  2. Go to the Account tab and select the here link.

This opens the PrintNode portal in your web browser.

  3. In the left navigation menu, select Devices.

  4. Select the Workstation or Server that hosts the printer you want to remove.

  5. Select the printer and choose the Delete (trash bin) icon.

Once removed, the printer ID will no longer be available to Business Central.
