Automatic Backflushing Processes

Backflushing Automatic Tracking

Overview

A new field called Backflushing Automatic Tracking is now available on the Production Order Header. This field inherits its value from the Manufacturing Essentials Setup but can be edited for each specific Production Order. It allows users to specify whether item tracking lines for components with Flushing Method = Backwards should be automatically assigned. Note that this setting does not affect the Suggest Item Tracking Lines action.

Backflushing Process Behavior

If Backflushing Automatic Tracking = Yes in the Production Order Header and a Routing Link Code exists, the system will automatically assign item tracking lines using the Suggest Item Tracking Lines logic when the output is posted through any of the following:

  • Output Journal
  • Subcontracting Purchase Order
  • Inventory Put-away
  • Production Journal

The system will then post the related consumption.

Error Handling

  • Insufficient Quantity or No Lot/Package Available: The system will prevent posting the output and display an error message.
  • Empty Bin Code/Location Code: The system will attempt to find inventory stocked without these codes. If none is found, an error message will appear, and the process will roll back.

Exclusions and Special Conditions

  • Process Items: Items classified as Process Items are not included.
  • Blocked Lots/Packages: If a Lot No. or Package No. is blocked (Blocked = Yes), it will be skipped during the automatic assignment of tracking lines.
  • Pre-assigned Item Tracking Lines: If item tracking lines are already filled in, the system will not modify them and will consume the quantities already defined.
  • Location Handling:
    • If the location on the component line has Direct Put-away and Pick = Yes, an error will be displayed, and the process will roll back.
    • If the location has Direct Put-away and Pick = No, but Prod. Consumption Whse. Handling = Warehouse Pick (mandatory), the system will also roll back and display an error.

Backflushing when Finishing Production Orders

If no Routing Link Code exists and the Flushing Method is set to Backwards, consumption occurs when the Production Order status is changed to Finished. In this case, if Backflushing Automatic Tracking = Yes, the system will automatically assign item tracking lines using the Suggest Item Tracking Lines logic.

Error Handling

  • Pre-assigned Item Tracking Lines: If the item tracking lines are already filled in, the system will consume based on the existing lines.
  • Blocked Lots/Packages: If a Lot or Package No. is blocked, it will be skipped during the assignment process.
  • Insufficient Quantity: An error message will be displayed, and no consumption will be posted. The Production Order will remain in Released status.

Exclusions and Special Conditions

  • Process Items: Items classified as Process Items are not included.
  • Empty Bin Code/Location Code: The system will attempt to find inventory outside these locations/bins. If none is found, an error message will appear.
  • Location Handling:
    • If the location has Direct Put-away and Pick = Yes, an error will appear, and the Production Order will remain in Released status.
    • If Prod. Consumption Whse. Handling = Warehouse Pick (mandatory), the same process occurs, and an error message will be displayed.
