Suggest Item Tracking Lines
Suggest Item Tracking Lines action
The Suggest Item Tracking Lines action has been added to the following pages:
- Production Order Components
- Consumption Journal
- Production Journal

This action automates the assignment of Lot or Package numbers for all components in a Released Production Order, following the First Expired, First Out (FEFO) principle. If a component’s Item Tracking Code has Strict Expiration Posting set to Yes, expired lots will be excluded. For items without an expiration date, the system uses the First In, First Out (FIFO) method for Lot/Package selection.
Rules for Automatic Assignment
- Process Items: Items classified as Process Items are not supported by automatic backflusing tracking.
- Handling Shortages:
- If no lot/package number is available for a component, the Item Tracking Line will remain empty.
- If there is not enough quantity, the system assigns a partial quantity to the Item Tracking Lines.
- A warning will be displayed: “Not all component lines have a tracking code assigned due to lack of inventory availability.”
- Bin and Location Codes:
- If the Bin Code (and possibly Location Code) is empty, the system searches for inventory without these codes.
- If no suitable inventory is found, the system won’t create any Item Tracking Lines and the aforementioned warning will appear.
- Non-Tracking Items: Components without an Item Tracking Code are skipped.
- Blocked Packages and Lots: If a package or Lot No. is marked Blocked = Yes on its Package/Lot No. Information Card, it will be skipped during assignment.
- Pre-assigned Item Tracking Lines:
- On the Prod. Order Components page, components with pre-assigned tracking lines (manually assigned) will be excluded from automatic assignment.
- In Consumption or Production Journal, the system will prompt the user to confirm whether to replace existing assignments.
- Location Handling:
- If the Direct Put-away and Pick field is set to Yes for a component’s location, the line will be skipped, and a warning message will be displayed.
- If Direct Put-away and Pick is set to No, but the location requires Prod. Consumption Whse. Handling = Warehouse Pick (mandatory), the line will be skipped and a warning message will appear.
- Entry Type: In the Production Journal, only lines with Entry Type = Output will be assigned.
- Journals: On the Production and Consumption Journals, the action only applies to the currently selected line.
