Manufacturing Essentials Setup
To configure Co/By-Products, navigate to the Manufacturing Essentials Setup page via the Bricklead Manufacturing Essentials menu. The following setting is crucial:
Capacity Cost Allocation
Select one of two methods for allocating capacity costs to co/by-products (detailed below).
Selecting the appropriate capacity cost allocation method depends on the nature of the production process and the desired level of accuracy in cost allocation for Co/By-Products.
- Quantity Proportional With this method, capacity costs are distributed proportionally across all products (main item and Co/By-Products) based on the recorded output quantities. The system calculates the total output quantity by combining all Co/By-Products, and each output line receives a portion of the total capacity cost proportional to its contribution to the overall production.
Example of Calculation: Suppose a production run yields 100 units of a main product and 50 units of a by-product, with total routing and capacity costs of $1,000. The costs would be allocated as follows:
- Main Product: 100/(100+50) = 66.67% of total costs, or $667
- By-Product: 50/(100+50) = 33.33% of total costs, or $333
- None With this method, all capacity costs are allocated solely to the main product, and Co/By-Products are not assigned any portion of these costs.
Items set with Standard Costing
For items with the Costing Method set to Standard, standard Business Central costing is used.
- When the costing method for an item is set to Standard, Business Central uses the predetermined costs established in the item card.
- Capacity costs are then calculated based on this standard rate, without any additional adjustments or proportional allocations.

Permissions
The following permission sets are required for using Co/By-Products features:
(BRIMES_CBP BASIC)- MES Co/By-Product - Basic - Allows creation and assignment of Co/By Products to a main item or Production Order.(BRIMES_CBPREADUSERS)- MES Co/By-Product - Read Users - Grants read-only access.
