Setting up Process Item

Item Card and Stockkeeping Unit Card Enhancements

The Item Card and the Stockkeeping Unit Card now include two new fields: Process Item and Consumption Distribution Rule.

Field Description
Process Item Indicates if the item is considered a Process Item by default.
Consumption Distribution Rule Defines how to distribute the available Process Item quantity per Released Production Order by default. If set to ‘Real Output’, the suggested quantity to be consumed will be based on the actual output quantity registered. If set to ‘Expected Output’, the suggested quantity to be consumed will be based on the expected output quantity.

Validations

  • An item can only be designated as a Process Item if its Flushing Method is set to Manual, Forward, or Pick+Forward.
  • If the Process Item or Consumption Distribution Rule fields are modified after the item has related Item Ledger Entries, an error will be displayed.

Production BOM Lines

The Production BOM Lines now include two new fields: Process Item and Consumption Distribution Rule.

Field Description
Process Item Specifies if the item is considered a Process Item for production orders with this BOM.

Validations

  • Both values are inherited by default from the Item Card fields.
  • An item can only be set up as a Process Item if its Flushing Method is set to Manual, Forward, or Pick+Forward.
  • Same item can’t be defined as Process item and Non Process Item on the same production BOM.

Production Order Component Lines

The same fields exist on Components:

Validations

  • Both values are inherited by default from the Production BOM line or Stockkeeping Unit Card fields depending on [Setup].
  • If the Default Process Item Hierarchy is set to Stockkeeping Unit, values are inherited from the Stockkeeping Unit unless it does not exist, in which case they are inherited from the Production BOM.
  • If the Default Process Item Hierarchy is set to Production BOM, it ignores the Stockkeeping Unit and inherits the value from the Production BOM.
  • An error will occur if you try to set a Stockkeeping Unit as a Process Item when its Flushing Method is Backward or Pick+Backward. An item can only be set up as a Process Item if its Flushing Method is Manual, Forward, or Pick+Forward.
  • If you attempt to change the Process Item or Consumption Distribution Rule fields after Item Ledger Entries exist for that Production Order Component Line, an error will appear.

When the Flushing Method is inherited from the Stockkeeping Unit (if it exists), and the Default Process Item Hierarchy is set to Production BOM, there is a possibility of having the Process Item field active while the Flushing Method is set to Backward or Pick+Backward. This scenario can create conflicts within the system.

To prevent such inconsistencies, a new validation has been introduced in the Refresh Production Order action:

All these validations occur during the following processes:

  • Refresh Production Order on the Production Order page (for all statuses)
  • Create Production Orders through Planning Worksheet
  • Create Production Orders through Order Planning
  • Create Production Orders through Sales Order Planning
