Item Card and Production Family
Item Card
The Item Card in Dynamics 365 Business Central is extended with four new fields under the replenishment tab when the Manufacturing Variances Management app is enabled. These fields allow users to define and manage variance policies and tolerances for individual items.

Field Name | Description |
---|---|
Variance Policy | Choose one of the following options: None: No variance check is done (however, the variance is recorded) when recording quantiative variance on consumption or output. Warning: The system will show a warning to alert the user when setting values outside the specified tolerances on quantities. Block: This option does not allow the user to consume or produce above or below the specified tolerances. Default value: The policy defined at the company level is used for this item. |
Under Output Tolerance (%) | Specifies the under-output tolerance percentage for the selected item. This value is defaulted with the company defined value. |
Over Output Tolerance (%) | Specifies the over-output tolerance percentage for the selected item. This value is defaulted with the company defined value. |
Quantitative Review | Specifies if the Quantitative Review should be done prior to closing a production order. Default means that the company (app setup) level setting applies for this item. |
Behavior Based on Flushing Method
Flushing Method | Behavior |
---|---|
Forward | All four fields (Variance Policy, Under Output Tolerance (%), Over Output Tolerance (%), Quantitative Review) are non-editable. If this method is selected, any existing values are cleared, except the Variance Policy, which is set to None. |
Backward | Fields are non-editable. Any existing values are cleared, except the Variance Policy, which is set to None. |
Manual | All four fields become editable. |
Stockkeeping Units
The Stockkeeping Unit (SKU) Card is also extended with smilar four new fields under the Replenishment tab when the Manufacturing Variances Management app is enabled. These fields allow users to configure and manage variance policies and tolerances for specific SKUs, inheriting values from the associated Item Card where applicable.
Business Rules
When a new SKU is created:
- Variance Policy, Under Output Tolerance (%), Over Output Tolerance (%), and Quantitative Review are inherited from the associated Item Card.
- Changes made to the Item Card do not automatically update existing SKUs. Adjustments must be made manually on the SKU Card if needed.
The behavior based on Flushing Method is the same as in the Item Card.
Families
The Production Families functionality in Dynamics 365 Business Central is extended with a new field, Quantitative Review, when the Manufacturing Variances Management app is enabled. This field allows users to specify whether a variance review is required before closing production orders for items within the family.
