Pages & UI Reference
This section describes the key pages, fields, and UI elements introduced or extended by the Manufacturing Batch Size app. These enhancements support batch-oriented production by embedding batch size logic directly into standard Dynamics 365 Business Central pages.
The purpose of this section is to help users understand where batch functionality is configured and how it is reflected in day-to-day operations.
Item
The Item Card and Item List are extended with the field Batch Size Item, which determines whether an item is subject to batch-controlled production.
When this field is activated:
- The item becomes subject to batch-specific restrictions
- Production and lot management follow batch size rules
- Additional validations are applied during production and inventory processes
This field can be enabled or disabled at any time, providing flexibility in managing which items are controlled by batch logic. However, enabling it signals that the item should follow a structured batch production model.
Production BOM
The Production BOM is enhanced to support batch-based definitions at both header and line level.
Header Fields
- Batch Size BOM: Indicates whether the BOM is batch-driven
- Batch Quantity: Defines the quantity produced in a single batch
These fields establish the foundation for batch-based production and ensure consistency across manufacturing processes.
Line Fields
- Quantity per Batch: Specifies the exact quantity of a component required for one batch
- % Batch Quantity: Allows defining component quantities as a percentage of the batch
Calculation Behavior
A new calculation formula, Fixed Quantity per Batch, ensures that component quantities are tied directly to the batch, independent of the overall production quantity. When this formula is applied:
- The Quantity per field becomes non-editable
- Users must define Quantity per Batch
- The system automatically recalculates dependent values
These enhancements ensure that BOMs remain stable and consistent, regardless of the total production demand.
Production Order
The Production Order pages are extended to support batch-based execution and control.
Header Fields
- Batch Quantity: Displays the batch size used for the production order
- Batch Production Order: Identifies whether the production order is batch-controlled
These fields are visible only for item-based production orders and are not editable, ensuring that batch logic remains consistent.
Behavior and Restrictions
When a production order is batch-controlled:
- The Quantity field on lines is non-editable
- Manual addition or modification of lines is restricted
- The structure is inherited from the Production BOM
If the required quantity exceeds the defined batch size, the system automatically creates multiple production orders - each representing a single batch.
Actions
- Mat. Requisition per Batch: Generates a view of material requirements per batch, supporting operational clarity and preparation.
Planning Components
The Planning Components page is enhanced to align material requirement calculations with batch size logic.
Key Fields and Behavior
- Quantity per Batch: Defines component usage for one batch
- Calculation Formula: Fixed Quantity per Batch: Ensures that quantities are always calculated based on full batches
When this logic is applied:
- Expected quantities are derived from batch size calculations
- Results are rounded up to match full batch requirements
- Manual editing of certain fields is restricted
- Adding planning lines manually with batch logic is not allowed
Additional Rules
- Scrap values are not considered in batch-based calculations
- Quantities always reflect complete batch units
These adjustments ensure consistency between planning outputs and actual production execution.
Production by Batch (Execution Pages)
Batch production rules are enforced across operational pages used during execution:
- Output Journal
- Production Journal
- Inventory Put-away
Key Behaviors
- Only one lot can be posted per batch production order
- The system validates that the same lot is consistently used
- Attempting to post output with a different lot will result in an error
- A lot produced in one batch production order cannot be reused in another
These validations ensure that batch integrity and traceability are maintained during production transactions.
Lot No. Information
The Lot No. Information Card and related list are extended to support batch identification.
Field
- Batch Size Lot: Indicates whether a lot is associated with batch-controlled production
Behavior
- Automatically set to True when output is posted for a batch-controlled item
- Also set when the lot is manually created for such items
- Requires Create Lot No. Info. on Posting to be enabled
Once set, this field ensures that the lot follows batch-specific rules throughout its lifecycle.
