Getting Started
Before You Begin
Before implementing Catchweight Management, it is important to understand how variable-weight products are managed within your organization and which business processes require actual weight registration.
Catchweight Management is designed for products where the physical weight varies between individual units. These products are typically managed using a standard inventory quantity while also requiring the recording of an actual weight throughout operational processes.
Before configuring the solution, review:
- Which items require catchweight management.
- Where actual weight information originates.
- Which users are responsible for capturing and maintaining weight data.
- Which business processes require actual weight registration.
- Any reporting or traceability requirements related to weight information.

Understanding Catchweight Management
Before performing any configuration, users should become familiar with the fundamental concepts provided by the solution.
Standard Quantity vs. Actual Weight
Catchweight Management allows products to be managed using two values:
| Value | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Inventory Quantity | The standard quantity used by Business Central transactions. |
| Handling Quantity | The physical weight associated with the product being handled |
Both values can coexist and be maintained throughout the transaction lifecycle.
Weight Registration
Actual weight information can be captured during normal business operations, ensuring accurate weight visibility throughout the supply chain.
