PFU & Subcontracting
Production Follow-Up supports production orders that include subcontracting operations. These operations are treated differently from internal manufacturing steps, as execution and output posting are managed externally through purchasing documents rather than through production journals.
Because subcontracting operations do not post output through Production or Output Journals, machine execution tracking does not apply. As a result, Machine Status–related validations and postings are limited or skipped for these operations to ensure correct and consistent behavior.
Business Rules
Prod. Order Routing
- Machine Status and Stop Code fields are not applicable for subcontracting routing lines.
- These fields must be non‑editable when the routing line’s Work Center has Subcontractor No. ≠ ‘'.
- The following actions are not allowed for subcontracting routing lines:
- Change Machine Status
- Reopen Machine Status
Output Posting and Machine Status Control
Subcontracting operations do not post output via Production or Output Journals. Their receipt is posted from the Purchase Order related to the subcontracting process.
When Allow Machine Status Control on Output is enabled, the system skips the “Machine Status = Running” validation in the following cases:
- The posting originates from a Purchase Order with Prod. Order No. filled in (purchase receipt linked to a subcontracting operation).
- The posting from:
- Production Journal
- Output Journal
- Inventory Put‑away refers to a Prod. Order Routing Line whose Work Center has Subcontractor No. ≠ ‘'.
Machine Progress Status and Time Registration
Machine execution tracking is not applicable to subcontracting operations. Therefore, Production Follow-Up enforces the following behavior:
- Machine Progress Status: No Machine Progress Status lines are created for subcontracting routing operations.
Time Journal and Time Entries
- Routing lines related to subcontracting work centers are excluded from the Time Journal.
- The system does not generate Time Entries for subcontracting operations.
- If a user manually tries to control time by filling in Machine Status for a subcontracting operation, the system shows the following error: “Time Entries cannot be controlled because it is linked to a subcontracted work center.”
Production Follow-Up Dashboard behavior
All restrictions and validations described for Change Machine Status and Reopen Machine Status are also enforced when these actions are performed directly from the Production Follow-Up dashboard.
- Subcontracting routing lines are visible for monitoring purposes.
- Machine Status–related actions are not applicable.
- Any attempt to change or reopen Machine Status results in the same validation error used throughout the system.
