Getting Started
This chapter guides you through the key configuration steps required to start using License Plating in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. Before warehouse users can create, move, assign, or ship License Plates, several foundational settings must be configured.
Before You Begin
Before implementing License Plating, ensure that:
- Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is properly configured.
- Warehouse locations have been created.
- Users have the required permissions to manage warehouse transactions.
- Your organization has defined how License Plates will be used operationally (pallets, boxes, containers, mixed loads, etc.).
- Number series are available for License Plate creation, if required.
Depending on your warehouse setup, License Plating can be implemented in a single location or across multiple warehouse locations.

First Steps with License Plating
Run Assisted Setup
The quickest way to get started with License Plating is by using the License Plating Assisted Setup, which guides administrators through the initial configuration process.
Search → Assisted Setup → Set Up License Plating
The Assisted Setup wizard helps configure the core application requirements and can also generate demonstration or test data to accelerate implementation.
Using the Assisted Setup, you can automatically create:
- License Plate Types
- License Plating Number Series
The wizard also allows you to configure SSCC (Serial Shipping Container Code) - related information used for License Plate identification and labeling.
For new implementations, Bricklead recommends completing the Assisted Setup before making any manual configuration changes.
Review License Plating Setup
After completing the Assisted Setup, review the License Plating Setup page to verify that all configuration options match your operational requirements.
The setup page is divided into three sections:
- General - Configure the default operational behavior of License Plates, including:
- Whether multiple items can be stored on the same License Plate
- Whether multiple lots can be stored on the same License Plate
- Default License Plate Types
- Default License Plates for non-tracked locations
- Journal settings used when moving inventory between License Plates
- Number Series - Define how License Plate numbers are generated, including:
- License Plate numbering
- Ship License Plate numbering
- Unplanned movement numbering for License Plate transfers
- SSCC - Configure whether License Plate numbers and Ship License Plate numbers should use SSCC-compliant numbering. SSCC company information is maintained in the Company Information page.
Configure Warehouse Locations
License Plating supports both tracked and non-tracked locations.
For locations where License Plate tracking is required:
- Enable License Plate functionality.
- Configure the location to operate as a tracked location.
- Define any warehouse-specific requirements.
