Setup & Configurations

License Plating has a dedicated Setup page that centralizes all configuration options required for License Plating operations. It is strongly recommended to complete this setup before starting to use License Plating features.

The License Plating Setup page is divided into three tabs:

  • General — core behavior rules
  • Number Series — numbering configuration
  • SSCC — Serial Shipping Container Code configuration

General

The General tab defines the default content rules and movement behavior for License Plates.

Field Description
Multiple Items Allowed Specifies whether different items can be placed together on the same License Plate. When enabled, a License Plate may carry more than one item reference. When disabled, each License Plate may only contain one item. Note: This toggle cannot be turned off if existing License Plates already carry multiple items.
Multiple Lots Allowed Specifies whether different lot numbers can be placed together on the same License Plate. When disabled, each License Plate may only contain one lot number. Note: This toggle cannot be turned off if existing License Plates already carry multiple lots.
Item Journal Template Name Specifies the Item Journal Template used when transferring items between License Plates and when executing License Plate transfers via the Move License Plate function. The template must be of type Transfer. A new, user-specific journal batch is created automatically each time this function is used.
License Plate No. for Untracked Locations Specifies the default License Plate number assigned to all License Plates located at warehouses where the Require License Plate Tracking toggle is turned off. Note: This value cannot be changed if open inventory entries still reference the previous License Plate number. The new value also cannot already be in use for an existing License Plate.
Default License Plate Type Specifies the License Plate Type used by default when assigning a new Ship License Plate number during a Warehouse Pick or Inventory Movement, and for non-tracked locations. This field is mandatory when License Plate Types are used.

Number Series

The Number Series tab defines the numbering sequences used across License Plating operations.

Field Description
License Plate Nos. Specifies the Number Series code used to assign License Plate numbers when a new License Plate is created at a tracked location.
Ship License Plate Nos. Specifies the Number Series code used to assign Ship License Plate numbers during Warehouse Picks and Inventory Movements.
Unplanned Movement Nos. Specifies the Number Series used when License Plates are moved via the Move License Plate function. This number is recorded as the Document No. in the Item Reclassification Journal line. A new, user-specific journal batch is created automatically. Note: This field is required at posting time — if it is not configured, the application will block the posting.

SSCC

The SSCC tab controls the use of Serial Shipping Container Code (SSCC) numbering for License Plates and Ship License Plates. SSCC provides globally unique identifiers compliant with GS1 standards.

Field Description
SSCC as License Plate Specifies whether the License Plate number is automatically generated as an SSCC unique identifier. When enabled, the License Plate Nos. number series is no longer used for License Plate number generation.
SSCC as Ship License Plate No. Specifies whether the Ship License Plate number is automatically generated as an SSCC unique identifier. When enabled, the Ship License Plate Nos. number series is no longer used for Ship License Plate number generation.
SSCC Configuration Provides a direct link to the Company Information page, where the SSCC parameters are configured. Click this link to open the SSCC Setup tab on Company Information.

Important: When either SSCC as License Plate or SSCC as Ship License Plate No. is enabled, the three SSCC fields on the Company Information page become mandatory. You must complete the SSCC configuration before saving.

Company Information — SSCC Setup

The SSCC configuration is maintained on the Company Information page, on the SSCC Setup tab. Fill in the following fields:

Field Description
Extension Digit A digit between 0 and 9 used to extend the capacity of the Serial Reference within the SSCC number. Mandatory when SSCC is enabled.
Serial Reference Nos. Specifies the Number Series used to generate the serial reference — a globally unique number assigned to the GS1 member company. Mandatory when SSCC is enabled.
SSCC GS1 Company Prefix Specifies the numeric prefix allocated by GS1 to identify the logistic unit at company level. Mandatory when SSCC is enabled.

License Plating Assisted Setup

The Assisted Setup wizard guides you through the initial configuration of the License Plating app. To open it, search for Assisted Setup and select Set Up License Plating.

Note: If the Assisted Setup was already completed, the application will ask for confirmation before running it again.

The wizard contains the following steps:

Step Description
1 — Welcome Introduction to the License Plating app and the setup process.
2 — License Plate Content & Number Series Define whether multiple items and multiple lots are allowed on the same License Plate. Optionally create a default set of Number Series (LP, SLP, MLP).
3 — License Plate Types Optionally create a default set of License Plate Types (Pallet, Europal, Container, Crate). If the Packaging Management module is installed, you can also import existing Packaging Codes as License Plate Types.
4 — SSCC Setup Configure SSCC settings, including the Extension Digit, GS1 Company Prefix, and Serial Reference Number Series. These fields become mandatory if SSCC is enabled in Step 2.
5 — License Plate Information Define the Item Journal Template, the License Plate No. for Untracked Locations, and the Default License Plate Type.
Finish Review and confirm. All settings are saved when you choose Finish.

Data Created by the Assisted Setup

The wizard can optionally create the following demo/default data:

Number Series:

Code Description
LP License Plate No. Series (starting at LP-00001)
SLP Ship License Plate No. Series (starting at SLP-00001)
MLP Move License Plate No. Series (starting at MLP-00001)

License Plate Types:

Code Description
PALLET Pallet
EUROPAL Europal
CONTAINER Container
CRATE Crate

Inventory Setup

When License Plating is installed, the Package Caption field on the Inventory Setup page is automatically set to License Plate and is locked — it cannot be modified. This is required to ensure consistent tracking of inventory through License Plates across all Dynamics 365 Business Central transactions.
