Troubleshooting and FAQ's
Common Issues and Solutions
Issue: Manufacturing Variances fields are not visible on pages
Possible Cause: The Manufacturing Variances module is not enabled.
Solution: Navigate to Manufacturing Essentials Setup and enable the Enable Manufacturing Variances field under the Manufacturing Variances tab.
Issue: Backflushing does not automatically assign lot numbers
Possible Cause: Backflushing Automatic Tracking is disabled.
Solution: Navigate to Manufacturing Essentials Setup and enable the Backflushing Automatic Tracking toggle under the Manufacturing Backflushing tab.
Issue: Process Item and Consumption Distribution Rule fields are not visible on the Production BOM
Possible Cause: The Default Process Item Hierarchy is set to Stockkeeping Unit.
Solution: Change the Default Process Item Hierarchy to Production BOM in the Manufacturing Essentials Setup if you want to manage process items at the BOM level.
Issue: Cannot enable Process Item on an item with Backward flushing
Possible Cause: A Process Item cannot use a backflushing method.
Solution: Change the item’s Flushing Method to Manual or Pick + Forward before enabling the Process Item flag.
Issue: Co/By-Products are not added to the Production Order after refresh
Possible Cause: The Co/By-Products may not be associated with the item or its variant.
Solution: Check the Co/By-Products page from the Item Card. Ensure that Co/By-Products are defined for the correct item and variant combination.
Issue: Process Items appear in the standard Consumption Journal
Possible Cause: The item may not be marked as a Process Item on the Production Order Component Line.
Solution: Verify that the Process Item field is set to Yes on the relevant Production Order Component Line. Process Items flagged correctly are excluded from standard journals.
Error when finishing a production order: “Quantitative Review is mandatory”
Possible Cause: The Quantitative Review setting is set to Mandatory, and the review has blocking messages.
Solution: Open the Quantitative Review page displayed during the Finish process. Review the variances listed and correct any lines with blocking messages before proceeding.
Troubleshooting and FAQ’s
Q: Can I use Manufacturing Essentials with the Essentials edition of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central? This app supports the Premium edition of Dynamics 365 Business Central. The Premium license is required because the app depends on manufacturing functionality, which is only available in the Premium edition.
Q: Does the automatic lot assignment work for items tracked by Serial Number? No. Automatic Lot/Package assignment will not work for Process Items nor items tracked by Serial No.
Q: Does automatic lot assignment work in advanced warehouse locations? No. Automatic Lot/Package assignment will not work in consumption locations with Advance Warehouse (with Directed Put-away and Pick). Automatic Lot/Package assignment will not work if “Prod. Consumption Whse. Handling” on the consumption Location is “Warehouse Pick (mandatory)".
Q: Can Co/By-Products have a different routing than the main item? Co/By-Products will use the same routing as the main item. If a Co/By-Product has a different routing in its item card, the system will disregard it. If a different routing is required for a Co/By-Product, the user can add it as a new item on a new Production Order Line and refresh the Production Order with “Lines” set to No. This enables the Co/By-Product to use its own routing, and the cost will be calculated as it would be for any finished item.
Q: What happens to capacity costs for items with Standard costing? When the costing method for an item is set to Standard, Business Central uses the predetermined costs established in the item card. Capacity costs are then calculated based on this standard rate, without any additional adjustments or proportional allocations.
Q: Who can set the Operational Status to “In Review”? Only users assigned to the Production Manager User Group can set the Operational Status to In Review.
Q: What scenarios does Multiple Order Consumption support?
Key usage scenarios include:
- Setting up items as Process Items on the Item Card, Production BOM, SKU, and Production Order Components.
- Calculating Process Item inventory by Lot No., Package No., Location, and Bin Code as of a specific date.
- Automatically distributing and registering the consumption of Process Items.
- Calculating bin content and the related consumption register for Process Items.
